Description
Louis Latour Côte de Beaune Villages embodies Burgundy’s historical continuity dating back to 1797, and demonstrates that tradition is only worthwhile when it remains alive in the vineyard. The estate selects grapes from different communes within the appellation to craft a red wine that remains true to the diverse landscape of the Côte de Beaune, rather than seeking an easy effect or an artificial expression. It is a bold and quintessentially Burgundian decision: to express the terroir through the harmony of the whole. Made exclusively from Pinot Noir, it is grown on clay and limestone soils, with vines around 25 years old, in an area where the continental climate and meticulous viticultural practices give rise to wines of finesse, freshness and serene elegance.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand, which is essential for preserving the delicacy of the Pinot Noir in Louis Latour Côte de Beaune Villages. In the cellar, fermentation takes place in the traditional manner in open vats, with measured extraction designed to respect the silky texture and aromatic purity. It is then aged for between 10 and 12 months in a combination of stainless steel tanks and medium-toasted French oak barrels from the Louis Latour cooperage. The steel preserves the wine’s fruit-driven energy and freshness; the wood adds roundness, depth and a subtle spicy nuance. Bottling takes place when the wine has achieved balance, without an excess of oak and without losing its terroir identity.
Taste
In the glass, Louis Latour Côte de Beaune Villages displays a brilliant ruby colour and an elegant nose of undergrowth, raspberry, blackberry and redcurrant, all wrapped in a refined expression, far from exuberant. On the palate, it is round, silky and juicy, with that airy texture so characteristic of a fine Côte de Beaune Villages. Crisp red fruit unfolds naturally, followed by hints of black fruit and a delicate touch of mocha. The finish is clean, refined and slightly spicy, with a freshness that makes it particularly well-suited to food.
