Buy Wine from La Traviesa
La Traviesa is the natural wine project of Manuel Valenzuela and his son, Lorenzo, of the famous Barranco Oscuro winery. Made in Granada, they farm organically in an area that is not formally designated. As they are wines made outside the Designation of Origin, they are not allowed to say on the label the real name of the area they come from. No more and no less than La Contraviesa- La Alpujarra, hence the play on words that gives its name.
La Traviesa vineyard
Manuel Valenzuela has been a pioneer in Spain in the production of natural wines. In 1979 he decided to escape from the big cities with his family to find refuge in the south of Spain. Precisely, in the countryside. When they arrived at the Barranco Oscuro farmhouse, the land was covered with almond trees, so he had to plant a new vineyard. La Traviesa uses indigenous yeasts, disgorges by hand, without filtering, and does not add sulphur. The land was never worked with chemicals, which is why Manuel became a respected leader in organic farming. All the grapes are harvested by hand. The winery has three types: ancestral, white and red.
