Buy Wine from Quinta da Muradella
In the heart of the Monterrei Designation of Origin, in the province of Ourense, Galicia, lies Quinta da Muradella, a winery that not only produces wine, but tells stories in every glass.
Vineyards
If you have ever walked through the vineyards of Monterrei, you will know that it is a landscape that leaves its mark. At Quinta da Muradella, the 20 hectares of vineyards are spread over 23 plots, each with its own character.
Some are at an altitude of 300 metres, others reach 800 metres, creating microclimates that give life to wines with a surprising diversity. And the soil... ah, the soil. A combination of granite, slate, clay, quartz and schist, the result of an ancient geological fault, provides unique nuances that can be felt in every sip.
José Luis Mateo does not settle for easy. His philosophy is clear: no aggressive chemicals or shortcuts. Since 2005, his vineyards have been organic. In other words, here nature rules, and the human being only accompanies it in its dance.
Philosophy
For José Luis Mateo, making wine is an art and an act of patience. There is no rush. There are no fixed recipes. Just the constant search for authenticity.
In the winery, he prefers to let the grapes speak for themselves: Spontaneous fermentations, without commercial yeasts; Minimal use of sulphur, because less is more; and no fining or filtering, leaving the wine to retain all its essence.
They say that Quinta da Muradella wines have soul. Maybe that's because Mateo doesn't release a wine until he's sure it's ready. Some wait years in the cellar before they see the light of day. There is no pressure, just respect for time and terroir.
The result is a collection of vibrant wines, with textures and nuances that transport you directly to Monterrei. Each bottle is a piece of history, an invitation to explore a different, lesser known, but equally fascinating Galicia.
