The Nuestra Señora de Remelluri estate is the place where some of the best wines in the region are made. It is owned by the Rodríguez Hermandorea family, whose particular vision has always focused on producing wines of the highest quality, while following traditional parameters for the preparation of reds and whites.
Want to know more about their history, tradition and everything that makes them so special, read on!
History
The history of the winery is linked to the development of this wine region, but there are also some interesting facts that you will surely like to know. The most impressive of all is that until the 15th century the land on which the winery is located was part of a monastic farm that depended on the sanctuary of Toloño.
In 1845 the sanctuary passed into the hands of a landowner from Labastida, who was responsible for maintaining the vineyard. However, it was not until 1967, more than a century later, that the winery as we know it was founded, thanks to the efforts of Jaime Rodríguez and his family.
Location
The Nuestra Señora de Remelluri farm is located in La Rioja Alavesa, more specifically in the vicinity of Labastida. There, the Hermandorea family has developed with effort and dedication a vineyard that recreates the style of the great plantations of Bordeaux, France.
The winegrowing is carried out in an ecological and sustainable way. This, in addition to guaranteeing an organic product of the highest quality, also means working according to nature's biorhythm, resulting in an unparalleled wine that will be appreciated by the most diverse consumers.
The vineyard
At present, the Nuestra Señora de Remelluri winery has a total of 154 hectares of land, of which approximately 100 hectares are dedicated to Vitis vinifera plantations.
As for the terraces used for planting, these are made up of limestone and clay soil, at an altitude of 800 metres above sea level and surrounded by a privileged microclimate, ideal for developing all the properties of the grape to the maximum.
Meet the team behind this winery
Jaime Rodríguez's son, Telmo, and his wife, Amaia, are in charge of the winery's production management. Thanks to their efforts, Remelluri wines would not only become famous locally, but would also gain the recognition of several oenology figures worldwide, such as the critic Robert Parker or Tim Atkin.
But Telmo Rodríguez is also credited with bringing the Remelluri winery to the path it is known for today, by implementing the knowledge acquired during his stay in France and bringing the classic Rioja wines closer to the style of those produced in Bordeaux, with well-structured tannins, great aromatic richness and, in the case of the reds, bright, intense colours.
Not only that, but Telmo Rodríguez's credit also goes to the international market, which is increasingly interested in the winery's oenological work. Undoubtedly, a feat he has been able to achieve thanks to the support of his partner, Pablo Eguzkiza. The rest is part of a story that has begun to consolidate itself as one of the most successful, with a vineyard that is coming back to life, and in what a way!
Wines designed to share and enjoy
Each of the products marketed by the Remelluri winery has been designed to guarantee the greatest satisfaction for all consumers. And it is not just a matter of simply selling wines. At the Remelluri winery, their main objective is also to bring the best of Rioja viticulture to your glass.
What are you waiting for to try some of their wines? You will love them!
