Buy Wine from Bodegas y Viñedos El Sequé
In the dry and luminous heart of Alicante, El Sequé reinterprets the winemaking tradition of southeastern Spain with a clear ambition: to express the pure character of Monastrell from its place of origin. Founded in 1999 by the López de Lacalle family (Artadi), this winery is neither an experiment nor an extension, but a project with a soul of its own. A declaration of love for the Levante terroir, its austere soils and extreme climate.
A vineyard between sun and Altura
Located in the hills of Pinoso, at an altitude of 650 metres, El Sequé cultivates around 40 hectares of its own vineyards on poor, sandy, limestone soils. Here, the Monastrell is grown between the harsh Mediterranean sun and cool nights, which allows for full ripeness without losing nerve or acidity. These conditions generate wines with power, structure and unexpected elegance, which know how to balance ripe fruit with a refreshing balsamic tension.
Conscious viticulture and minimal intervention
The Monastrell, the mother grape of the project, comes in part from old vines, cultivated with a conscious viticulture, which limits yields to favour concentration and authenticity. The grapes are harvested by hand, with exhaustive selection in the vineyard and in the cellar. Oenological intervention is minimal but precise: natural fermentations, ageing in well-integrated oak barrels, always at the service of the wine, without masking the varietal identity or the character of the soil.
Wines with a Mediterranean soul
The result is quality Mediterranean wines that combine power with unusual depth. Notes of blackberry, plum and liquorice coexist with hints of dried herbs, balsamic and subtle mineral undertones. The firm tannin melds with a silky texture, achieving wines that are as pleasant as they are serious, with a remarkable ageing capacity.
A philosophy based on the truth of the place
El Sequé 's philosophy is clear: there is no room for artifice or fashion. Here we work with rigour and sensitivity, respecting the history of the place and taking advantage of modern knowledge. The aim is not to make noise, but to let the land speak. Each bottle is a faithful testimony to the landscape in which it was born.
The experience of drinking El Sequé
To drink El Sequé is to enter into the soul of the Levant: to feel the warmth of midday, the whisper of the wind among the vines, the mineral silence of the soil. It is to rediscover a variety such as Monastrell at its best, with all its noble rusticity and its capacity to excite. A wine that does not seek to please everyone, but to be true to itself. A signature wine that leaves its mark
