Buy Wine from Bodegas Terras Gauda
Where the Atlantic embraces the Miño and the salty mist caresses the green slopes of Rosal, Terras Gauda is born, a winery that has managed to turn the Atlantic soul of Galicia into wine. Founded in 1989 by a group of Galician entrepreneurs led by José María Fonseca Moretón, its history is that of a courageous vision: that of dignifying the indigenous Galician varieties and elevating them to the international stage with wines that thrill with their authenticity and their expression of origin.
A vineyard between the sea and the mountains
Terras Gauda 's terroir is not simply land: it is a living landscape of 160 hectares between the sea and the mountains, with plots facing south and southwest that maximise sun exposure and favour a balanced ripening of the grapes. The soils, with a loamy texture and excellent drainage, combine schist, decomposed granite and alluvium, which gives a characteristic minerality and a unique character to each variety. There, Albariño, Caiño Blanco and Loureira find a perfect balance between freshness, structure and aromatic elegance. At less than 100 metres above sea level, the vineyards benefit from an exceptional microclimate, tempered by the oceanic influence and hydrated by the abundant rain that characterises the Rías Baixas.
Passion for detail since 1990
Since its first harvest in 1990, Terras Gauda has cultivated a passion for excellence that has led it to become one of Galicia's most emblematic references. But what sets it apart is not only the quality of its wines, but also its pioneering spirit. In collaboration with the CSIC, they have led research into the clonal selection of Albariño and the recovery of almost forgotten varieties such as the Caiño Blanco, reaffirming their commitment to biodiversity and the winemaking identity of their land.
From Galicia to the world via Bierzo, Duero and Rioja
This search for authenticity does not stop in Galicia. Terras Gauda has woven a network of wineries that covers the wine geography of Spain with admirable coherence. In 2002, it added Pittacum in Bierzo to its group, with the elegance of Mencía; in 2010, it settled in Ribera del Duero with Quinta Sardonia and its biodynamic commitment to deep-souled reds; and in 2018, it crossed over to Rioja with Compañía de Vinos Heraclio Alfaro, closing a circle of diversity that maintains a common thread: absolute respect for the vineyard and the place.
Sustainability that can be felt in the glass
This respect also translates into sustainability. Terras Gauda not only produces wine, but also listens to the land. It participates in Hong Kong dollarpean projects such as NOVATERRA, looking for ecological alternatives to phytosanitary products, and has implemented circular economy practices that convert grape harvest waste into natural fertiliser. Every decision, from the vineyard to the bottle, is guided by an environmental ethic that honours the nature from which its wines are born.
Wines that speak Galician and are understood all over the world
The jewel of their collection, the Terras Gauda, is a singular white wine that embodies the house's philosophy: a precise blend of Albariño, Caiño Blanco and Loureira, resulting in a wine with an enveloping texture, notes of white fruit, floral hints and an Atlantic minerality that lingers on the palate. Next to it, Abadía de San Campio, now with a label signed by Javier Mariscal, shows the most vibrant and pure side of Albariño, while labels such as La Mar or Terras Gauda Etiqueta Negra express different nuances of the same territory with admirable oenological sophistication.
A corner of El Rosal with a travelling soul
Its international projection, with a presence in more than 60 countries, from Norway to Sri Lanka, is proof that the Galician bottled spirit is echoed around the world. But Terras Gauda has not lost its essence: whoever visits its winery in O Rosal discovers a place where tradition and innovation go hand in hand, where wine is culture, nature and passion.
