Buy Wine from Bodegas Vetus
Bodegas Vetus is founded in 2003 in Zamora province to produce red wines with Tinta de Toro grape, within Toro appellation. They have only 20 hectares of own vineyards at Villanueva del Puente, a small village located at 700 metres above sea level, on sandy-limestone soils where phylloxera pest is totally unknown. It has an extreme continental climate, with arid nature and scarce rainfall, winters are therefore very cold and frost risk is considerable, while summers are dry and hot, enhancing the good growing cycle and full grape ripeness.
It was not until 2008 when Vetus finally has an own winery, because for years it has been under construction. Vetus however, belong to Artevino holding, also proprietor of Bodegas Izadi and Bodegas Orben located within the Rioja Alavesa and on the other hand, Finca Villacreces at Ribera del Duero, so, for the first harvests used their sister-wineries as support to produce these so genuine wines.
Bodegas Vetus produces up to 100.000 bottles (this production has to be considered small) of three different red wines under D.O. Toro and a Rueda white wine of Verdejo variety. These are their wines: Flor de Vetus, a wine aged for 9 months in French and American oak barrels. It is a dense, mature wine, with high alcoholic content with balsamic and minty notes: real blackberry juice! Vetus is the result of a selection of the estate's best plots, a rich and concentrated wine… Toro purest style. Leather, liquorice and smoked are the key elements dressing this wine. Celsus is the most complex wine of the collection beyond doubt. If you can appreciate a wildly powerful wine, this one is for you: mocha, ashes, graphite, coal, clove and pepper are the prevailing notes in this edition. Finally, Flor de Vetus Verdejo a white wine from Rueda appellation full of citric and apricot.
