Buy Wine from Patrick Bouju
Patrick Bouju is considered a legend in the French - or the world - natural wine scene, but it all goes back to his school days. Patrick, who was a chemistry student, became aware of his body when he realised that he could not tolerate sulphites. This problem makes him move away from conventional wine, and makes him hungry for curiosity. Coincidentally - or not so coincidentally - between 1994 and 1995, when he was doing his military service, he met many sons of natural wine producers. And that's when his life changed forever.
Patrick Bouju's vineyard
The doors to a possible world of producing low-intervention wines have been opened to Patrick. This discovery inspired him to study viticulture in Baune. He started in 2004 with 1.5 hectares of vineyards, and now manages about 5 hectares in Auvergne (France), a mountainous area with a temperate climate and volcanic soil. This is where the respected Domaine de la Bohéme is born. Some of his plots are up to 120 years old, such as the Limberger and Mirefleurien grapes. He also grows multiple varieties of Gamay.All the field work is done by hand: the harvest can last until the end of November. The whole process is based on organic and biodynamic methods. In other words, no sulphur is used in the winery at any stage. No herbicides or synthetic chemicals are used either.
Patrick Bouju's wines
Patrick also works in collaboration with other winegrowing colleagues in France and even in Greece. He is undoubtedly one of the most competent natural wine producers in the world. With unmistakable tannins, these are some of his favourites: Patrick Bouju The Blanc 2016 muscat, Patrick Bouju Cailloux 2017, from pinot noir and gamay grapes and Patrick Bouju Loin Des Yeux Pres Du Coeur 2016, a light and crisp sylvaner, pinot gris and auxerrois. At Domaine de la Bohéme, the richness of the indigenous flora is preserved in order to vinify with the yeasts of each region. To bring out the personality of the different soils, Patrick prefers to vinify each plot separately. Also, we can find the captivating, Patrick Bouju M 2018, a light and crisp bourgogne melon, Patrick Bouju CCV 2018, chardonnay, chenin blanc and viognier, and the 100% gamay Patrick Bouju Lulu 2018.- ;
