Buy Wine from Lagar de Fornelos
In the heart of O Rosal, where the Miño caresses the land before merging with the Atlantic, the history of Lagar de Fornelos is born. What began as a family project with Albariño vines carefully planted on the Galician hillside, became a firm commitment to excellence when, in 1988, the La Rioja Alta group took the reins of this winery. Their vision was clear: to show the world that Galicia could offer world-class white wines without losing the soul of their origin.
Territory, microclimate and viticultural precision
Today, Lagar de Fornelos cultivates more than 100 hectares of its own vineyards between O Rosal and the Salnés Valley. Plots such as Viña Cervera, Tamuxe and Seoane are true Atlantic gardens where the sea breeze, the humidity of the Miño and the mild temperatures create an ideal environment for the Albariño to ripen. In their granitic soils, permeable and rich in minerals, the vines express themselves with intensity and balance.
The respect for the terroir is total. Each intervention in the vineyard responds to the natural rhythm of the Atlantic climate and to a viticulture that favours the health of the soil and the varietal identity. The grapes are harvested by hand, with rigorous selection in the field and in the cellar, always seeking to capture the essence of each plot.
Tradition reinvented
Although its facilities are modern and technical, at Lagar de Fornelos the memory of the old stone wine press remains alive, a symbol of an ancestral viticulture that continues to inspire each bottle. The winery, renovated in 2013, combines functional design with aesthetic respect, incorporating art and light into a space where wine breathes serenity.
At the head of the winemaking team is Olga Verde, who leads with a contemporary outlook, Galician sensibility and a constant quest to refine the purest expression of Albariño. Her technical approach is based on minimal intervention, always adapted to the character of the year.
Wines with an Atlantic soul
The flagship of the house is Lagar de Cervera, a vibrant, floral and saline Albariño, made from vineyards in both sub-zones. It is followed by Pazo de Seoane, a blend of native varieties such as Loureiro and Treixadura, which adds breadth and complexity. In recent years, Lindeiros has emerged as a signature cuvée that explores the maximum mineral expression of its granite soils and proximity to the sea.
All Lagar de Fornelos wines share one quality: they speak frankly. They need no embellishment or artifice. Their clean character, vibrant texture and natural balance make them a solid reference in Rías Baixas.
Galicia bottled
Lagar de Fornelos is not just a winery. It is a living testimony to the Atlantic potential of Albariño. A declaration of identity. A glass of sea, breeze and granite. A bottled Galicia
