Buy Wine from Clos Du Rouge Gorge
Clos Du Rouge Gorge is a small winery of about 6 hectares located in Languedoc-Roussillon. The oenologist and winegrower Cyril Fhal practices a biodynamic viticulture and a vinification of minimum intervention, which results in exclusive red and white wines, authentic, fresh, low alcohol content and with a marked acidity.
Vineyards and viticulture
Founded in 2002 by Cyril Fhal, the Clos du Rouge winery has 6 hectares of land between 50 and 100 years old. These are fairly dry vineyards, which receive ecological treatments so that the vines preserve their humidity and can suffer less from the heat in the summer.
Cultivation is carried out manually, without the aid of machinery and with the assistance of a horse for ploughing. Viticulture is carried out following the principles of biodynamics, respecting the nature of the terroir of each vineyard.
Among the varieties grown are Macabeo, Syrah, Grenache and Cariñena. Since its inception, Fhal has worked outside the Roussillon-Villages appellation, as it considers that standards such as meeting a minimum of 30% Syrah and/or Mourvèdre are contrary to the tradition, soil and climate of this region.
Clos du Rouge wines
Clos du Rouge wines receive minimal intervention, with no synthetic products and the use of native yeasts, no clarification or filtration and very low levels of sulphur, only 10-15mg/l. They have a low alcohol content, between 12 and 13%, and a high acidity. They are fresh and elegant wines that reflect the expressions of their lands.
Their production is limited to about 4,000 bottles of both white and red wines. Among its most outstanding wines, we can find the white wine without ageing Clos Du Rouge Gorge Blanc 2018, the young red wine with ageing Clos Du Rouge Gorge Jeunes Vignes 2018 and the red wine with ageing Clos Du Rouge Gorge Vieilles Vignes 2017.
