In the heart of the Côte de Beaune, where Chardonnay is at its best, the Morey family has been weaving its destiny since 1793. With roots in Meursault since the 18th century and a presence in Burgundy since the 16th, their legacy is deep, silent and steadfast. In 1971, Pierre Morey founded his own domaine, taking over his father Auguste's plots and writing a new chapter in the region's winemaking history.
Beyond his domaine, Pierre Morey played a key role as régisseur of Domaine Leflaive between 1988 and 2008, directing the viticulture and vinifications of one of Puligny Montrachet's most iconic names. It was there that he consolidated his vision of biodynamic viticulture that is precise, respectful and without artifice.
Biodynamics as a way of life
Since 1991, Pierre Morey has adopted biodynamic farming on all his plots, convinced that living soil is the basis for wines with soul. This philosophy, officially certified since 1997, guides every decision in the vineyard: home-made compost, biodynamic preparations, manual work, observation of the lunar cycles and zero chemical intervention. Everything is aimed at strengthening the natural balance of the vine.
The vines - split between Meursault, Monthélie, Pommard and Puligny Montrachet - are cultivated with a deep respect for their identity. Each plot is treated individually, and the aim is always the same: to allow the terroir to speak clearly.
In the cellar: purity without dogma
Natural vinification on the domaine is an extension of its philosophy: minimum intervention, maximum expression. The grapes are harvested by hand, gently pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts. Ageing takes place in oak barrels (20-30% new), without forcing the style or seeking uniformity. They are not systematically clarified or filtered, prioritising the texture and authenticity of the wine.
The result is Meursault wines that exude minerality, energy and depth, both in white and red. Their biodynamic Meursaults combine tension and finesse, while their Pinot Noir from Monthélie or Pommard reveal structure, freshness and an authentic character, true to the vineyard.
A family that cultivates time
Today, Pierre Morey shares the management of the domaine with his daughter Anne Morey, who has absorbed her father's know-how with a contemporary and rigorous approach. They also manage Morey-Blanc, a micro-négoce founded in 1992, which allows them to vinify grapes from nearby vineyards under the same standard of excellence.
Domaine Pierre Morey is not just a winery: it is a sincere expression of Burgundy's terroir, a place where time is patiently cultivated, where the land dictates the rhythm, and where each bottle bears witness to honest, precise and deeply human viticulture
