Claudio began his adventure on the La Marzagana estate, located in the La Orotava Valley, with the mission of recovering and revitalising century-old vineyards through sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural practices. The Marzagana Elementales vineyards extend over a total of 15,000 square metres on volcanic soils, at an altitude ranging from 400 to 730 metres above sea level. These lands, with a unique terroir, are composed of volcanic soils rich in minerals, which contributes to the complexity and richness of the wines produced. The winery uses traditional vineyard management systems, unique in the world, such as the braided cordon and tabla, which allow for efficient and sustainable management of the vines, many of which are more than 250 years old and pre-phylloxera, i.e. they have never been affected by the phylloxera plague.
The climate of the region is a crucial factor in the viticulture of Marzagana Elementales. The northern slopes of Tenerife have a subtropical climate with an oceanic influence, characterised by mild winters and warm summers. The climatic conditions allow for optimal ripening of the grapes, contributing to the production of wines with balanced acidity and a distinctive aromatic profile.
Philosophy
The philosophy of Bodega Marzagana Elementales is based on the production of natural wines and the application of the principles of biodynamic agriculture. Claudio Luis Lorenzo follows the teachings of Rudolf Steiner, using biodynamic preparations that include compost, horsetail infusions, yarrow, camomile and other natural elements that promote the vitality and harmony of the vineyard. These methods not only respect the natural cycle of the earth and the moon, but also promote biodiversity and soil health.
In the winery, any kind of artificial intervention is avoided. The wines are made without additives or chemicals, allowing the indigenous yeasts to ferment naturally. The grapes are harvested by hand, carefully selecting the grapes at their optimum ripeness. The wines are not racked and are bottled according to the biodynamic calendar, ensuring that each bottle reflects the purity and authenticity of Tenerife's terroir.
The leitmotiv of the project is"the less you touch the wine, the better", a philosophy that Claudio Luis has adopted since its inception. The bodega produces a variety of wines including Higa, a Listán Negro with intense aromas of black fruit and pepper; Pinarius, a blend of Listán Negro, Negramoll and Tintilla with notes of oak ageing; and Echeyde, a blend of Syrah, Listán Negro, Garnacha, Castellana and Tempranillo with a fresh and fluid profile.

The winery employs ancestral winemaking methods, such as the use of chestnut barrels instead of traditional oak, and fermentation in earthenware jars. Another outstanding wine is Mago del Norte, a claret from centenary Listán Negro, Negramoll and Listán Blanco vines that spends four months in chestnut barrels, evoking the style of the traditional wines consumed by the Canarian peasants.
