The Antoine Lienhardt winery is located in Comblanchien, a charming village between Dijon and Beaune, in the renowned Côte de Nuits region of Burgundy.
This winery is part of a long family tradition dating back to the 19th century. The first vigneron of the family was Gustave Guyot, who acquired the land at the end of the 19th century. His legacy was continued by his son Anselme and his brother George. Subsequently, Maurice Guyot, Anselme's only son, took over the reins of the domaine.Maurice Guyot pioneered the valorisation of his wine, selling it in bottle, and gained a reputation for his soft and fruity wines. In 1992, Maurice retired, and in 2011, Antoine Lienhardt decided to take over the management of the winery. Antoine, who grew up in Burgundy near Avallon, developed his vocation as a vigneron throughout his career, working in various wine-growing regions such as Chablis, Chambolle-Musigny and South Africa. Since 2017, Héloïse Lienhardt, Antoine's sister, has joined the project to co-manage this family adventure, taking care of administrative tasks, export and marketing.
Vineyards
Domaine Antoine Lienhardt 's vineyards are located in the prestigious Côte de Nuits, known for its exceptional terroir. The soils of this region are predominantly calcareous, with a composition rich in clay and marl, providing ideal conditions for growing vines. The winery owns several hectares of vineyards where they grow mainly Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grape varieties.
The climate in this region is continental, with cold winters and warm summers, which contributes to a slow and uniform ripening of the grapes. This type of climate, together with the sustainable viticultural practices adopted by the winery, enables the production of high quality wines that reflect the unique character of Burgundy's terroir.
Philosophy
The philosophy of Domaine Antoine Lienhardt focuses on an organic and biodynamic approach to vine growing and winemaking. In 2016, the winery began its conversion process to organic farming, obtaining ECOCERT certification with the 2019 vintage. Antoine and his team have gradually eliminated all synthetic products in their treatments, opting for practices that respect the environment.
Antoine's approach to winemaking is minimalist, with minimal interventions in the natural growth of the vines and vinification. The winery follows the lunar cycles for its work in the vineyard and in the cellar, adopting biodynamic practices to develop the aromatic complexity of the wines and preserve the biological vitality of the soil.
In addition, the winery has started planting trees around its plots, following the Chinese proverb: "The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now". Every year, Antoine and his team plant 5 to 10 trees, both on the plots and in their orchards, to improve biodiversity and the ecological balance of the environment.
Winemaking at Domaine Antoine Lienhardt is carried out with an artisanal and natural approach. All grapes are harvested by hand to ensure the highest quality. Vinification is carried out using whole bunches, which means that the grapes are not destemmed before fermentation. This method gives the wines greater structure and complexity.
Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel vats and maceration is short, with a process of pumping over and punching down according to the profile of each vat. The winery does not use any additives or external inputs during vinification, maintaining a natural winemaking practice.
For ageing, the wines are transferred by gravity to the barrel cellar, where a portion is aged in cement eggs and stoneware vats, allowing for the development of unique and complex flavour profiles. The white wines are pressed directly and fermented in barrels, while the red wines benefit from extended maturation to reach their maximum expression.
In short, Domaine Antoine Lienhardt is a clear example of how tradition and innovation can coexist in the production of high quality wines. The combination of organic and biodynamic practices, together with a deep respect for the terroir and the environment, makes this winery a reference in the Burgundy region. Antoine Lienhardt 's wines not only capture the essence of their terroir, but also represent a commitment to sustainability and excellence in every bottle.
