Buy Wine from Bodegas Hermanos Sastre
The Hermanos Sastre winery is one of the most internationally renowned wineries.
Its wines are made reflecting the expression of the land and the plant, through an exclusively organic cultivation where the whole process is natural.
History
The Sastre family founded this small winery with the aim of producing wine from approximately 23 hectares of vineyards.
This family-run winery began as a cooperative under the leadership of Severiano Sastre, a pioneer of the project in the mid-20th century.
In the 1950s, Severiano was already making his first vinifications in the underground cellars of La Horra in the heart of the D.O. Ribera del Duero.
In 1992, Rafael Sastre, one of Severiano's sons, decided to stop selling his grapes and founded the family winery in the municipality of La Horra (Burgos). To do so, he had the support of his father and his two sons: Pedro and Jesús.
The Hermanos Sastre winery is one of the main representatives of Ribera del Duero and is run by a family that has been linked to the world of wine for more than five decades and owns a valuable vineyard of old vines that it tends with the utmost care.
Vineyards
The winery's success is based on factors such as the care of the vineyard, and its great secret lies in the grape.
The recognised quality of the 45 hectares of vineyards it currently owns, many of which are over 60 years old, offer structured, exclusive and harmonious wines whose distinction has been recognised by the best wine tasters.
Philosophy and production
The secret of the winery has been to cultivate the vineyards where the grapes come from in a natural way without mineral fertilisers, herbicides or insecticides.
All the work is done by hand, from the manual harvest to the double selection of the best grapes (both in the field and in the winery).
In the winery, the land continues to be the undisputed protagonist, listening to the terroir and letting the vineyard speak.
Nowadays, Rafael's son, Jesús Sastre, is in charge of the winery, working these same vineyards through organic and biodynamic viticulture, always maintaining the utmost respect for the land and the grapes.
As his brother Pedro, his father and grandfather did, no mineral fertilisers, herbicides or insecticides are used, and the natural cold of La Horra is used to filter the wine in a natural way.
This great respect for the environment does not exclude technology, which Jesús has progressively acquired.
The combination of this advanced technological knowledge and the high quality of tiny-grained Tempranillo grapes from old vines allows us to offer wines that never disappoint those who taste them.
Wines to enjoy
The wines produced by the Bodega Hermanos Sastres winery are highly distinguished and fully demonstrate the winery's expertise. The winery's efforts are focused on producing wines for long ageing.
In short, from its philosophy, the Bodega Hermanos Sastres winery maintains a traditional way of cultivation and winemaking, with the utmost respect for the land, always seeking to create quality wines with a genuine character.
And you, have you already tasted some of the impressive wines of this winery? Leave us your comments!
