Buy Wine from 4 Monos Viticultores
The 4 Monos Viticultores winery is located in the Sierra de Gredos, about 80 km west of Madrid, Spain. This region, which encompasses parts of the appellations Méntrida, Vinos de Madrid and Castilla y León, is characterised by its diverse landscape, combining Mediterranean and Alpine elements. The story of 4 Monos begins with the union of four friends who are passionate about wine and the region: Javier García and Laura Robles, both oenologists, David Velasco, a wine lover, and David Moreno, a vineyard owner.
The project was born in 2010, when this group of friends, who met while hiking in the mountains of Gredos, decided to embark on their wine adventure.Javier García, formerly winemaker at Bodegas Jiménez-Landi, is a key figure in the winery. His brother Fernando is part of Comando G and technical director of Marañones, and Javier has also been a consultant for Viña Somoza in Valdeorras. This professional background brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in quality winemaking.
Vineyards
The vineyards of 4 Monos Viticultores extend over 17 hectares in 48 different plots, mainly located in Cadalso de los Vidrios and in a plot in San Martín de Valdeiglesias. These vineyards are planted on granitic soils, at an altitude varying between 750 and 960 metres, which contributes to a unique microclimate. The region enjoys a dry Mediterranean climate, with both Alpine and Mediterranean influences, which is reflected in the diversity of the local flora and fauna.
Philosophy
The philosophy of 4 Monos Viticultores focuses on organic farming and pure expression of terroir. In the winery, minimalism is key. For the white wines, they are harvested for acidity, fermented in barrels and aged in neutral French oak. They produce two whites: a regional Albillo, Viura and Moscatel, and another Albillo from vineyards over 95 years old in Cadalso de los Vidrios.
As for the reds, varieties such as Garnacha, Cariñena and Morenillo are harvested at the initial point of ripeness, using whole bunches, gentle extraction and ageing in neutral oak of various sizes. The range includes a regional red from several villages in Gredos, a wine from the village of Cenicientos and two single plot wines under the label "La Danza del Viento". In addition, 4 Monos is the only Gredos producer to highlight the Cariñena grape with a single vineyard wine called "Car".
