The Anders Frederik Steen winery is located in the picturesque village of Valvignères, in the Ardèche region of France. Since 2013, Anders Frederik Steen, together with Anne Bruun Blauert, has been crafting wines that are pure expressions of the grape and the terroir. Anders, originally from Denmark, began his career in wine by buying fruit from winemakers he admired, working alongside Jura legend Jean-Marc Brignot.

Before immersing himself in the world of wine, Anders was a chef and sommelier at some of Denmark's best restaurants, including Noma, Manfreds and Relae, which provided a solid foundation for his innovative approach to winemaking. This previous experience significantly influences his approach to winemaking, seeking not to follow established rules and feeling the need to innovate every year.

Vineyards

Anders Frederik Steen 's vineyards are spread out on a broad, open valley slope, benefiting from a terroir of limestone and clay. This land has been farmed organically for decades, which ensures healthy and lively grapes. The diversity of grapes includes both red and white varieties, which are directly pressed or destemmed by hand, and always ferment together, capturing the essence of each vintage.

Philosophy

Anders Frederik Steen 's philosophy focuses on creative freedom and respect for nature. As in cooking, winemaking is seen as an act of creation where no set recipes are followed. Every year is different, and with it, the expressions of the grapes and the terroir. Anders and Anne do not allow themselves to be limited by the conventional wisdom dictated by the vineyard, the grape variety, the area or tradition. Their aim is never to repeat themselves, allowing themselves to be guided by nature and remaining curious and open to new possibilities.
The wines are made from grapes that are either directly pressed or destemmed by hand, and the whites are pressed directly in a beautiful old wooden press. The blends are made during the harvest, and the different varieties always ferment together, spontaneously, in the open air and under the open sky. The wines are bottled unfiltered, without additives, being thoughtful and original expressions of this part of Ardèche.
