Buy Wine from Oddero
The Oddero winery is located in a territory with deep roots dating back to the 18th century. This winery has a history that is intertwined with that of the Langhe region's viticulture, its cellars and its vineyards. The history of Oddero is also the history of the dedication of a people and a territory to its wines, the jewels of which are Barolo and Barbaresco.
History
The origins of Oddero winemaking are difficult to pinpoint, but it is known that the vineyards and the farms that today inhabit them have always belonged to the family. Through documents and records, it is confirmed that the Oddero family has been present in the territory of La Morra since the 18th century. It was Giovanni Battista Oddero and his sons who began to vinify the grapes produced in the vineyards of La Morra between the 18th and 19th centuries. Thanks to them, the wine began to be known all over the world.
The contemporary history of the winery is inextricably linked to Giacomo Oddero, who renovated the ancient agricultural estate and strived to raise the quality and prestige of the wines. Under his leadership, the Oddero winery assumed its current configuration, expanding its vineyards and promoting an internationally recognised quality policy. The new generation, represented by Mariacristina, Isabella and Pietro, continues the tradition with passion and dedication.
Vineyards
The total vineyard area of the Oddero winery is approximately 35 hectares, of which 16.5 are cultivated with Nebbiolo for Barolo and Barbaresco. The soils of the Barolo area are of sedimentary origin, gradually formed by the withdrawal of the waters of the Padanian Sea in the Middle-Lower Miocene period. They are composed of calcareous clay loam and sands in variable proportions. Some of the outstanding vineyards are Bussia, Rocche di Castiglione, Villero, Brunate and Roggeri.
Philosophy
The Oddero winery has adopted organic practices in the management of their vineyards since 2008. They have completely eliminated chemical weeding and control weeds mechanically. They use copper and sulphur against fungal pathogens and employ good agronomic practices. All their Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto vineyards are certified organic.
In the cellar, the materials used for vinification are wood and stainless steel. For the ageing of their wines, they use large oak barrels from Austria, Slovenia and France. The historic Oddero winery is located in Santa Maria di La Morra and consists of two parts: one for vinification and one for ageing the wines.
