Buy Wine from Domaine Mee Godard
Mee Godard is located in the heart of Beaujolais, in the prestigious Morgon appellation. Founded in 2013, the winery is the culmination ofMee Godard 's passion and commitment to viticulture. Mee, born in South Korea and adopted by a French family, fell in love with wine and decided to dedicate herself to this noble profession.
She studied at the University of Burgundy and trained in oenology in Montpellier. Before establishing her own winery, she worked in prominent wineries such as Domaine des Comtes Lafon in Meursault and Domaine de Montille in Volnay. His experience and dedication are reflected in every bottle he produces, leading his winery to be recognised for its exceptional quality and focus on terroir.Vineyards
Mee Godard 's vineyards comprise 8.3 hectares located mainly in Morgon and Beaujolais Villages, with some parcels of Chardonnay in Belleville. The terroir of Morgon is particularly remarkable, composed of a mixture of saprolite, derived from the degradation of pink granite, alluvium and volcanic rock. This unique soil, combined with a continental climate offering cold winters and warm summers, provides ideal conditions for growing Gamay grapes.
The winery practices organic viticulture, using cover crops, mechanical tillage and judicious use of inputs to nourish the soils and old vines. Planting density is high, with approximately 11,000 vines per hectare in some plots, which favours beneficial competition between plants and results in high quality fruit.
Philosophy
Mee Godard 's winemaking philosophy is a combination of tradition and innovation. Each plot is treated individually, adapting winemaking techniques to the unique characteristics of each vineyard and the prevailing environmental conditions. This includes adjustments to the proportion of whole bunches used, extraction techniques and the length and style of ageing programmes. Mee Godard adopts an intuitive approach to winemaking, allowing it to create wines that authentically reflect the terroir of each parcel.
Winemaking at Mee Godard is a meticulous process that seeks to bring out the complexity and elegance of each cuvée. Harvesting is done by hand, and the grapes are picked in small crates to avoid damage. Each parcel is fermented separately, allowing the unique characteristics of each terroir to fully express themselves.
Maceration lasts between 16 and 20 days, followed by ageing in barrels, foudres and demi-muids for 11 months, and then an additional 3 months in tank before bottling. This careful attention to detail at every stage of vinification allows Mee Godard wines to maintain a complex structure and depth that make them ideal for ageing and for accompanying gastronomic dishes.
Among the winery's most notable wines are: Morgon Corcelette, from vineyards averaging 70 years old, planted on granitic soils on southeast-facing slopes; Morgon Côte du Py, a blend of three parcels in the Côte du Py climat, with soils known as roches bleues and vines averaging 65 years old; Morgon Grand Cras, from a parcel at the foot of Côte du Py, with colluvial soils and vines averaging 40 years old; Morgon Passerelle 557, made from a selection of fruit from the schist and bluestone soils of Côte du Py, aged in a blend of foudres and demi-muids; and Moulin-à-Vent Les Michelons, from the Moulin-à-Vent appellation, with pink granite and sandy decomposition soils.
