Description
At the historic Maison Louis Latour, founded in 1797, Louis Latour Pouilly Fuissé was created as a pure expression of southern Burgundy, where tradition does not weigh heavily, but rather refines. The Latour family, guardians of an eleven-generation winemaking heritage, understand that in Pouilly Fuissé, true luxury lies in letting the landscape speak for itself. That is why this wine, made from 100% Chardonnay, is crafted with a philosophy of respect for the terroir: vines around 30 years old, hand-harvested grapes and a clean interpretation of an exceptional site in the Mâconnais. There, the limestone and heavy clay soils, together with the Burgundian climate influenced by the continent, shape a white wine with striking minerality, serene depth and understated elegance. It is a wine born of a bold decision: to eschew the dominance of oak in order to preserve the unadorned voice of the land.
Winemaking
The winemaking process for Louis Latour Pouilly Fuissé is geared towards preserving purity, tension and definition. The hand-harvested grapes are brought to the winery for traditional vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Fermentation is carried out with precision to protect the varietal expression of the Pouilly Fuissé Chardonnay, followed by a full malolactic fermentation which adds roundness and texture. The wine is then aged for between 8 and 10 months in stainless steel tanks before bottling. With no oak and no added aromatics, this process seeks to provide a direct expression of the terroir: greater clarity, greater freshness, greater identity.
Taste
In the glass, Louis Latour Pouilly Fuisséreveals a refined, floral nose, with hints of honeysuckle, lime blossom and a delicate citrus undertone. On the palate, it is full-bodied, generous and harmonious, with notes of fresh almond, subtle brioche and ripe white fruit. The limestone character emerges early, giving the wine a sense of structure with a restrained and elegant minerality. This is not an exuberant white, but a wine of classic style: measured creaminess, precise freshness and a long, clean and food-friendly finish.
