It is a winery that defines itself as a biodynamic farm, where not only is respect for the environment where the fruit is grown guaranteed, but also the naturalness of each of its grapes is preserved.
Thanks to the hard work of those who today run this business, not only the production of old vines is maintained in this winery, but they have also created new types of wines under the philosophy of those who were its founders, managing to obtain unique vines.
Let's talk about its history
This winery has been run by the Rietsch family for more than 7 generations, who have dedicated themselves to maintain the wine culture that year after year has defined them in the sector as producers of different wines.
However, it is important to point out that before 1970, these lands were used for the cultivation of tobacco and other species, and it was in that year that Pierre and Doris Rietsch decided to start growing vines.
In 1987 the founders handed over the management to their son Jean Pierre, who since then has dedicated himself to the philosophy that defines the family winegrowers in the production of artisanal wines.
Jean Pierre has managed to become one of the first growers in Alsace to establish very particular maceration techniques, resulting in the creation of exotic and unique wines.
Techniques used
At the Domaine Rietsch winery, they make sure that all the processes are handmade and avoid the intervention of chemical products at each stage of the winemaking process. They are advocates of calcareous and sandy soils, as this has allowed them to harvest fruit that promotes the production of more fluid, vertical and energetic wines.
The technique for cultivating the vineyard is also artisanal, maintaining the family culture where everyone participates in the active process, with the sole objective of producing natural wines that respect the history of several generations, but with the aim of innovating every day.
The process of pressing the fruit is carried out under very careful techniques, using a low pressure pneumatic press that guarantees the gentle extraction of the must and the preservation of the skins of the fruit, to then promote a slow fermentation, with indigenous yeasts, which guarantee the expression of the grape.
Vineyards
We have already mentioned that the soils of these vineyards are of a clay-limestone type, thus ensuring that the harvested fruit absorbs the necessary amount of water and nutrients that classify it as a quality grape. By obtaining an optimal fruit, with a peculiar taste and texture, the wines will also be classified as unique.
Different types of grapes are grown in these vineyards , such as Auxerrois, Chardonnay, Riesling and Gewürztraminer from old vines, used in the production of different examples and in the creation of new types of wines.
Vertical and energetic wines
The wines of this winery are defined as vertical, as there is a wide variety of each variety with different types of flavours, depending on the vintage or harvest of the winery. They are also classified as generic, as their flavour is decisive and with a marked character. Undoubtedly, each wine is an invitation to exclusivity and elegance.
