Celler del Roure is a winery located in Moixent, southwest of Valencia. The winery dates back to 1996 and claims a family model of unique wine production, high quality and aging capacity; the property began with 20 hectares but now has 60 hectares and the autonomy that provides a modern winery with great processing capacity; for nostalgia and historical respect, in 2009 began a project to recover its old "bodega fonda", it is an old subway gallery with nearly a hundred clay jars of different capacities buried in the ground where formerly, from the XVIII century to the third decade of the XX century, wine was produced.XVIII until the third decade of the s.XX wine was elaborated.
Celler del Roure is owned and managed by the famous winemaker Pablo Calatayud who started this project with the help of a couple of Priorat winegrowers.
In the vineyards of Celler del Roure we can find Monastrell, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Garnacha Tintorera, Merlot and even Mandó: an autochthonous variety that used to be the most common one years ago but is now practically extinct. The vineyards are located at about 550 meters above sea level in four scattered estates on the northern slopes of the Serra Grossa and on sandy loam and clay-limestone soils; although the climate is Mediterranean, the four plots have slight differences in the limestone composition of the soil as well as microclimatic differences.
Among its wines, the original Cullerot stands out, a multi-varietal white wine that has as a curiosity its elaboration in clay jars of the old winery and that has an excellent balance between its fat, mineral and bitter citric part; Alcusses where the Monastrell is the protagonist and is expressed in the form of black fruit and Maduresa as the flagship of the winery and that gathers in a perfect coupagethe maximum expression of terroir of the Terra de Alforins.
Celler del Roureproduces about 200,000 bottles a year.
