The history of Bodegas y Viñedos de Gómez Cruzado is associated with love for the land, respect for the characteristics of the grape and the traditional practice of sustainable and reasoned viticulture.
A little bit of history
In 1886, Don Ángel Gómez de Arteche decided to produce and bottle wines in Haro, in the heart of La Rioja Alta.
This was the origin of a century-old winery in the Barrio de la Estación in Haro at the end of the 19th century.
In 1916 Gómez Cruzado was acquired by Don Agustín and Don Jesús Gómez Cruzado, of Riojan origin, from whom it takes its present name.
Over the years and in the 20th century, precisely in 2003, the winery came into the hands of the current owners, the Baños family, originally from the Riojan town of Badarán and resident in Mexico, a country to which the winery seems to be linked, thus recovering its family character.
In 2005, the renovation of the facilities was completed, which has helped the winery to be ready to face the 21st century. There, the advances in knowledge and new techniques are applied to work with precision in the production of wines with clear aromas and pure flavors.
Its vineyards
Gómez Cruzado wines originate from vineyards with a blend of grapes from almost 100 different controlled plots, distributed in the foothills of the Sierra Cantabria in the areas of Rioja Alta and Alavesa.
The composition of the soils is clayey-calcareous, in the highest part of the mountain range, up to 750 meters. These are the only vineyards in La Rioja where this Atlantic influence on the climate is evident.
These vineyards provide wines with characteristic typicity, freshness and elegance. Wines are produced there with great attachment to the terroir that come from the ancestral practice of sustainable and reasoned viticulture.
Wine quality
The excellence of the wines of Bodegas y Viñedos de Gómez Cruzado responds to the attention to detail. The personality of the grapes and the character of each vineyard are also respected to the maximum. According to their own characteristics, the grapes from each plot arrive at the winery knowing for which wine they will be destined.
Their wines are of the highest quality, which preserve the classic style of the so-called "fine wines" of the Barrio de la Estación de Haro. At the same time, they know how to enhance the value of the territory with the production of other wines connected to their landscape.
