The 2023 Sauvignon Blanc was barrel-fermented and matured for five months in 15% new French oak. It has pretty aromas of white peach, guava, beeswax, grapefruit peel and candle smoke. The medium-bodied palate features nuanced, layered flavors. Its soft, mouth-coating texture is foiled by bright, mouthwatering acidity, and it has a long, flavorful finish. 18,000 cases were made.

Description
Merry Edwards Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc was born out of a very specific vision: to produce a Californian Sauvignon Blanc with greater depth, texture and finesse than is usually found. The winery, founded by Merry Edwards and continued today in the same spirit of precision and respect for the vineyard, realised very early on that in the Russian River Valley this variety could offer much more than just aromatic exuberance. Here, the cool influence of the Pacific, the morning mists and the sandy-loam soils allow for a slow ripening process and perfectly preserved acidity. The wine is made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc, including a selection of Sauvignon Musqué, which lends it a particularly fragrant and seductive profile. It is a wine that speaks of a key region within the Californian wine scene and of a winery that chose the less easy path: taming the variety without detracting from its energy or identity.
Winemaking
The production of Merry Edwards Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc follows the estate’s classic style. After harvest, the grapes are brought to the winery for vinification aimed at preserving freshness whilst developing complexity. Fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, some of which are new, and the wine is then left on its lees for around six months. During this time, regular bâtonnage is carried out, resulting in a creamier texture, greater body and a very subtle integration of the oak. Finally, it is bottled with the aim of preserving both its aromatic expressiveness and its natural tension.
Taste
On the nose, Merry Edwards Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc reveals grapefruit, orange blossom, melon and ripe tropical fruit, all enveloped in a subtle note of vanilla and fine cream. On the palate, it is full-bodied, juicy and polished, with an enveloping attack that quickly sharpens thanks to fresh, well-balanced acidity. Ageing on the lees lends a silky texture, whilst citrus, white fruit and a delicate floral undertone linger in a clean, elegant and highly food-friendly finish. A white wine that strikes a balance between richness, freshness and sophistication.
