Buy Wine with Mantonegro
Manto Negro grape variety is, probably, native from Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands and it is the main variety in the appellation Benissalem-Mallorca. It has medium budding and mid-late ripening. It is very fruitful in fertile soils and quite resistant to powdery mildew and downy mildew but prone to suffer botrytis cinerea. Manto Negro variety has big berries of thick skin.
Manto Negro wines tend to be smooth, weakly coloured (often mistaken for rosé wines), with high alcoholic content so it is commonly blended with a small proportion of Callet in order to get a wine more structured and less alcoholic. Manto Negro vineyards newly planted produce wines with red fruits taste but older vines with less production bring forth more concentred wines, with black fruits flavour and striking aroma. There are good examples of wines aged in large oak barrels though it is a variety prone to oxidation.
