Description

Ever since Julien Brocard decided to follow his own path within the Chablis family tradition, his vision has been clear: to capture the energy of the land and translate it into wines of uncompromising purity. With a deep faith in biodynamics - when it was still regarded with scepticism in Burgundy -he chose to farm the steep Côte de Léchet, a 38° sloping Premier Cru hillside, exposed to full sun and sitting on poor, stony soils. A place where the vineyard struggles, and that struggle is transformed into minerality. Here, the Chardonnay grows with low yields, forced to concentrate, to speak with precision. Julien, convinced that wine is made more in the vineyard than in the cellar, has created here an expression of terroir that is not disguised, but revealed.

Winemaking

Harvesting by hand allows for precise selection. The grapes arrive intact at the winery, where spontaneous fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts. Julien opts for a respectful ageing process, in stainless steel tanks or in used oak vats, so that the wood does not dominate. Intervention is minimal: no aggressive fining, with reduced doses of sulphur and a prolonged time on fine lees, which adds volume without detracting from the tension. The biodynamic philosophy translates into a wine that vibrates with the energy of the place, without artifice, without shortcuts. Throughout this process, Julien Brocard Chablis 1er Cru Côte de Léchet becomes a faithful translation of the terroir. The Kimmeridgian soil, rich in marine fossils, becomes the backbone of the wine, providing salinity, precision and persistence.

Taste

Julien Brocard Chablis 1er Cru Côte de Léchet opens with intense but refined aromas: ripe yellow fruits, white flowers, candied orange peel. Nothing is excessive; everything is enveloped in a fresh atmosphere, with a saline note that announces its marine origin. On the palate, it shows an enveloping texture, with subtle honey nuances and a vibrant acidity that balances its natural density. As it progresses, its mineral character is revealed: wet chalk, flint, an almost electric sensation. The finish is long, taut, with a citrus sparkle that lingers and cleanses. It is a wine that speaks softly, but with conviction. It does not seek to impress, but to move. Its balance between intensity and restraint makes it an ideal partner for white fish, seafood or poultry with creamy sauces. But it can also be enjoyed on its own, as one enjoys silence in a stony landscape under the sun.
