Buy Wine from Bodegas y Viñedos Artuke
The diligence and genuine dedication that Roberto de Miguel's predecessors have shown is exemplary. Since they continue with the production process of unique wines that is carried out in La Rioja, it is proven that they are determined to maintain both its quality and its essence.
Artuke, an appellation created by Arturo and Kike, are the ones who have continued, renewed and preserved the family vineyards. Thanks to their valuable commitment, the territory in which their plots are located has an elemental purpose.
The history of the winery
It all began in 1991 in Baños de Ebro in the Rioja Alavesa. Winegrower Roberto de Miguel stopped shipping wine in bulk with the distinguished purpose of bottling and selling it in his van throughout the Basque Country. And it was there that the production of some of the most prominent wines of the place began.
Subsequently, his sons, Arturo, 18 years old, and Kike, who was around 11 years old, began to follow the example of their grandparents who, with much sacrifice, worked these vines in the best way. Since then, they have established the fifth generation of winegrowers and the second generation of winemakers, since the first were their parents.
This fact has driven them in such a way that Artuke now belongs to the group of Rioja`n`Roll producers, who are involved with the terroir and with the preparation of a unique product.
Location of the winery
The 25 hectares classified in 32 plots are located near the Ebro River, between 400 and 700 meters above sea level in the Sierra de Cantabria. The soils are varied, ranging from sandstone to calcareous clay, although they lack organic material.
These are fields that have been worked for the same purpose for more than 60 years, always thinking "if you work them well, it will not be necessary to force the winery". Hence its quality and excellence.
Founders and directors of the Artuke winery
Roberto de Miguel did not start this winemaking feat alone, in fact, who gave it a special touch was Conchi Blanco Pangua, his wife. Neither of them was afraid to give up being a grape grower or hairdresser to bottle wine. They started with 1,000 bottles, then their production increased surprisingly.
So through hard work and effort they created Viña Artuke, a winery that after three decades is managed by their sons. Arturo Miguel Blanco, who is in charge of everything with his partner and brother Kike de Miguel, is in charge of the vineyard activities.
Special features of the Artuke Winery
Growing and maturing together with the terroir has motivated these brothers to expand and recover several plots. One of these is La Condenada, a space acquired in 2012, a forgotten territory in which various types of soils extend.
They have also obtained other plots such as Paso Las Mañas, El Escolladero and one of the most famous of Baños de Ebro, the Finca de Los Locos. The latter, when his grandparents acquired it, seemed illogical, as the land was loaded with gravel, lime and sand. However, at present it is an excellence, as it preserves Tempranillo and Graciano grapes.
Their different plots have given them the opportunity to cultivate and process the quality of Vigneron that their progenitors started. So the specialty and characterization of their wines come from the land, from the site where everything originates, which gives it a unique touch.
Would you like to discover the flavor contained in the bottles of Artuke Cellars and Vineyards? You will be fascinated to do so!
