Description
In southern Burgundy, where the Mâconnais region takes on a more radiant character and the Chardonnay grapes seem to breathe at a different pace, the Vincent family decided that their “house wine” should not be a mere formality, but a statement. From the historic Château de Fuissé —owned by the Vincents since 1862—they have managed to translate centuries of patience into a parallel range, Famille Vincent, produced with the same rigour and a clear vision: to showcase Mâcon Villages as a white wine of pure authenticity, born from vineyards in the Mâconnais belonging to the family itself. Here, the Burgundy terroir reigns supreme: well-exposed slopes, soils where limestone and clay alternate, natural drainage and that sensation of “sun-warmed stone” that distinguishes French white wine from this region. The variety is 100% Chardonnay.
Production
At Famille Vincent Mâcon Villages, the grapes are selected for their freshness and phenolic ripeness, typical of vineyards on mid-slopes with good exposure. After pressing, fermentation is carefully managed to preserve the citrus liveliness of Burgundy Chardonnay, and the wine is refined through brief ageing that adds texture without masking its origins: wood as a frame, never as the picture itself. It is then stabilised, the blend adjusted if necessary, and bottled with a focus on clarity, tension and finesse: a dry white wine with a clean, food-friendly style.
Flavour
In Famille Vincent Mâcon Villages, the nose does not shout: it whispers. First comes ripe but restrained stone fruit —peach—and a delicate floral nuance, like honeysuckle, like a warm breeze before the shade. Then the bouquet opens up with citrus and a hint of the exotic, and that Burgundian touch of vanilla and almond that doesn’t sweeten, but merely defines. The attack on the palate is clean and direct: a fine creaminess, yes, but underpinned by a freshness that stretches the wine and makes the mouth water. The citrus returns, quince appears, and, beneath it all, a subtle minerality reminiscent of damp stone. The finish is not heavy: it is polished, persistent and clearly food-friendly, one of those Burgundy white wines that seem simple… until you realise the glass is already empty.
