The single-vineyard 2022 Carril del Rey, from a plot that tends to deliver pale wines in warm vintages, usually is their most classical wine. The vines were planted in the 1930s in the lower part of the estate and tend to be harvested the last but hardly ever achieve full phenolic ripeness. This has only 13.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.28 and 5.74 grams of acidity. It has a nose of red berries and aromatic herbs, with some Mediterranean character but with an acid-berry palate with effervescent acidity that makes it fresh despite the warmer sensation in the palate. It has a medium-bodied palate with fine-grained tannins and is balanced and harmonious. 850 bottles were filled in May 2024.

Description
Bernabeleva Carril del Rey is a wine that comes from a vineyard approximately 75 years old that extends along a south-facing slope, covering about 2.5 hectares of Garnacha and 0.5 hectares of albillo. The planting density is 2,000 vines per hectare. The soil, granitic in nature, varies in depth from the upper to the lower part of the slope, being deeper on the latter due to the dragging of the soil by rainfall. Of the estate wines produced by the winery, Carril del Rey is the one that matures the latest.
Winemaking
In the winery we try to respect the characteristics of the Garnacha variety as much as possible. Long fermentations are carried out with indigenous yeasts, 100% stems and 45 days of maceration, and pigeage is carried out as a technique to extract the wine's polyphenols. The wine is then transferred to French oak barrels with its lees, where malolactic fermentation takes place. Finally, the wine is aged for 11 months in the same 500-litre barrels from different coopers. Once the wine is ready for sale, it is bottled without fining and stabilised naturally.
Taste
Bernabeleva Carril del Rey is a single varietal Garnacha wine, considered one of the most exclusive and unique wines in Spain. It comes from a single plot that produces around 2,000 bottles per vintage. At first sight, its colour is so low that it could be mistaken for a rosé. On the palate, it is subtle and easy to drink, with notes of red fruit such as sour strawberry and watermelon, and also a touch of herbaceousness.
