Buy Wine from Hacienda López de Haro
Hacienda López de Haro is located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, in the heart of Rioja Alta, a privileged region for vine growing, protected by the Sierra de Cantabria and the Sierra del Toloño mountains and watered by the Ebro River. Founded in 2003 by the Vintae group, the winery owes its name to the owner of the first estate acquired by the Arambarri family, as well as to the lineage of the López de Haro family, former lords of Vizcaya.
The current vigneron of Hacienda López de Haro is a fundamental part of the team, working alongside a network of trusted small winegrowers who contribute their experience and love for the land. This commitment to quality and a common project is essential for the production of the winery's wines.
Vineyards
Hacienda López de Haro 's vineyards are located in two different areas: the Sonsierra and the Najerilla Valley. The Sonsierra is located on the northern slopes of the Ebro, at the foot of the Sierra de Cantabria, stretching from Briñas to Laguardia and Elvillar. This region is home to the best old Tempranillo vineyards in La Rioja Alta, grown on goblet-trained vines in very poor soils that considerably reduce production and increase the quality of the grapes.
The Najerilla valley, on the southern slope, is the area of origin of the Arambarri family. The vineyards are planted on clay soils that retain water and allow the vines to control themselves. The region enjoys an ideal microclimate, with winds that facilitate aeration of the vines and mild temperatures throughout the year, with more rainfall in winter.
Philosophy
The philosophy of Hacienda López de Haro focuses on the production of high quality wines using traditional techniques combined with modern innovations. The winery's wines are divided into two distinct ranges: the López de Haro wines themselves and the Classica collection of grand reserves.
The first range includes wines such as López de Haro Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva, each with different ageing periods in barrel and bottle. There is also a Tempranillo with six months in oak, a Viura-based white with three months in oak and a rosé made in the style of a claret with Garnacha and Viura.
The Classica range focuses exclusively on grand reserves and particularly outstanding vintages for the winery, with ageing well above the norm. These wines include a white, a rosé and a red, all of them of high quality and with prices that reflect their excellence.
The leitmotiv of the project is the creation of wines that represent the essence of La Rioja, combining tradition and modernity. Casual, youth-oriented communication is an important part of the winery's strategy, which also offers fun wine tourism experiences, such as wine tastings straight from the barrel, accompanied by typical Rioja dishes and live music.
Hacienda López de Haro is a benchmark in Rioja Alta, combining a privileged location, exceptional vineyards and a winemaking philosophy that combines tradition and modernity. The winery, part of the Vintae group, has managed to recover the essence of classic Rioja wines and adapt them to contemporary tastes, offering high quality products and a unique wine tourism experience.
