Buy Wine from Château Cheval Blanc
Château Cheval Blanc is a legendary maison born in 1832 that started achieving prestige in 1871, after the phylloxera pest, when Cheval Blanc wines began appearing at the best establishments of London, Paris and Antwerp. The winery was sold in 1998 to Bernard Arnault, president of LVMH Group in 1998, and to Pierre Lurton who is currently managing the winery. From 1954, Cheval Blanc was awarded Premier Grand Cru Classé “A” classification, together with Château Ausone within the appellation Saint Émilion.
The manor has 41 vineyard hectares at the north part of Saint Émilion commune, bordering neighbour Pomerol where the celebrated Petrus winery is settled. Cheval Blanc soils are made of gravel, red sand and clay on a subsoil of sedimentary rock. The star varieties here are Merlot and Cabernet Franc and a lesser proportion of Malbec y Cabernet Sauvignon. What do Merlot and Cabernet Franc supply? Cabernet Franc furnishes wine with scents, ageing potential, structure and elegance, while Merlot brings along a silky, round texture.
With an annual production of 72.000 bottles of Cheval Blanc and 30.000 bottles of their second wine, Le Petit Cheval, the winery is forced to distribute very carefully their product among customers, in order to satisfy them all. This maison produces so called garage wines, and the available quantities are pretty restricted. How are these wines like? Elegant, vigorous, structured and wraparound… a ravishing delight!
