Buy Wine with Müller Thurgau
Müller-Thurgau is a cross of Riesling and Madeleine Royale varieties developed by Hermann Müller. This variety is fruitful but likely to suffer powdery mildew, downy mildew and botrytis cinerea due to its thin skin. It has early ripening and the fragile vine shoots suffer during cold winters. Müller-Thurgau is also prone to the fungal disease Roten Brenner, which can cause severe losses
Müller-Turgau variety is the most successful German crossing if we talk about quantity, not about quality, and in the following decades to its official authorisation in Germany it has spread to all the other winemaking regions in the world. Cold climate producers were delighted in their prolific outcome and the fact that it could mature in almost any place, that is the reason why it is planted in all the winemaking German regions; Rheinhessen, Pfalz, Baden, Franken and even at the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer department. Hermann Müller's desire was to create a variety more flexible than Riesling, but unfortunately it has less potential and is much less excellent, especially if the performance is high. Müller-Thurgau wines tend to be slightly aromatic, floral and with scents similar to Muscat, but most of them are bland and weak.
