Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Bursting with aromas of cherries, berries and licorice, the 2022 Bourgogne Pinot Noir is medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with succulent acids and sweet, powdery tannins.

Features

Description

Ever since Pierre Morey decided to take the reins of his own family estate in Meursault, his quest has been clear: to honestly reflect the soul of the Burgundian terroir. Coming from a long line of winemakers, and having been technical director of the prestigious Domaine Leflaive, Pierre understood that greatness lies not only in the grands crus, but in the way each parcel is cultivated and vinified. Pierre Morey Bourgogne Pinot Noir comes from vines planted in 1968, on clay-limestone soils in Meursault, near Volnay, where Pinot Noir can reach a precise, elegant and deeply mineral expression.

Pierre Morey Bourgogne Pinot Noir responds to a conviction: that a regional Burgundy, well worked, can have the depth and character of a wine of nobler origin. It is a humble but sincere expression, with no room for artifice or oenological make-up.

Winemaking

The grapes are harvested by hand and rigorously selected in the vineyard. The grapes for Pierre Morey Bourgogne Pinot Noir are 100% destemmed and lightly crushed before fermenting with indigenous yeasts in open vats. Gentle pumping over is applied for a delicate extraction, under strict temperature control to preserve the aromatic freshness. Ageing takes between 15 and 20 months in used oak barrels, allowing the wine to express itself without masking its origin. Bottling is carried out by gravity, avoiding aggressive processes.

Taste

Clean and pure on the nose, Pierre Morey Bourgogne Pinot Noir displays aromas of red cherry, wild raspberry and a slight earthy nuance reminiscent of damp forest. There is also a trace of faint spice -white pepper, liquorice -and subtle florality. The palate is fluid, with fine tannins and a lively acidity that structures the passage. The finish is long, saline, with that restrained elegance so typical of the Côte de Beaune. A serious Pinot Noir, without fuss, that thrills with its precision and authenticity.
