Description
Mascarello Barbera d'Alba Santo Stefano di Perno is a wine that comes from the Santo Stefano de Perno vineyard, located in the municipality of Monforte d'Alba. This vineyard has been owned by the Mascarello family since 1989 and extends over an area of 1.69 hectares. It is situated at an altitude of 300 metres above sea level and has a west-southwest orientation. The soil of this vineyard is sandy-clayey, calcareous, composed of brown clay and grey sand of marine origin. As for the grape varieties planted, we find 60% Barbera, part of which was planted in 1994, 15% Nebbiolo and 25% Dolcetto, the latter planted in 1994.
Winemaking
This wine is made exclusively with the Barbera variety. It is vinified in the traditional way, with a cap-submerged fermentation of the skins for 15/20 days. The wine then matures in oak barrels for a few months. The wine is then bottled and is not released on the market until three years after the harvest.
Taste
Mascarello Barbera d'Alba Santo Stefano di Perno is a wine with an intense ruby colour. On the nose, it presents a fruity aroma of ripe grapes, tobacco, dark chocolate and herbs. On the palate, its powerful and excellent round and elegant body stands out.
