Description
Markus Molitor Haus Klosterberg Riesling is the perfect introduction to the world of one of the most compelling names inthe Mosel. Markus Molitor took the reins at just 20 years of age and decided one thing: that every bottle should speak of impossible slopes, cold nights and that slate that sets the pulse of German Riesling. The‘Haus Klosterberg’concept was born as a house wine that is not ‘basic’, but a clear portrait of the mosaic of vineyards typical of the Mosel Valley, where the cool climate and steep slopes stretch the acidity and refine the fruit. Variety: 100% Riesling.
Production
For Markus Molitor Haus Klosterberg Riesling, the harvest takes place in October, seeking ripeness without losing vigour. Following gentle pressing, a brief maceration captures aromatic nuances and the mineral character. Fermentation is slow and cool with indigenous yeasts, to achieve complexity without artifice. Ageing combines precision and calm: mainly in stainless steel to maintain tension, with a portion in large wooden casks that round out the wine without imposing aromas. An extended period on fine lees refines the texture before bottling.
Taste
In Markus Molitor Haus Klosterberg Riesling, the nose isn’t looking for fireworks: there’s earth. Taut citrus notes (lime, lemon), green apple and crisp pear emerge, with a hint of white peach and that flinty/smoky note that betrays the slate. On the palate, it is dry and direct, with a sharp acidity that stimulates the salivary glands and lengthens the finish. The texture, shaped by the lees, adds a fine, almost chalky sensation and a touch of salinity that drives the finish. It does not seek volume: it seeks precision. A white wine for lovers of minerality, impeccable with seafood, oily fish or clean, sharp Asian cuisine.
