Description

In 2016, Lori Haon, a young winemaker with a background in Burgundy, Alsace and Champagne, embarked on a bold venture by acquiring a 15-hectare vineyard in Valliguières, in the Gard department of France. The opportunity arose unexpectedly when her father found the property on an advertisement site and decided to buy it immediately, confident in Lori's ability to take on the challenge. Despite facing difficulties in the first few harvests, including wild boar attacks and significant losses to frost and mildew, Lori persevered, demonstrating remarkable resilience. Her philosophy is based on terroir-friendly viticulture, avoiding the use of synthetic chemicals and herbicides, and applying biodynamic practices without official certification. The wine Le Petit Oratoire Les Lauzes Blanches is a faithful expression of their commitment, made from Carignan, Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre vines, some of them centuries old, planted on limestone soils known as "lauzes blanches", similar to those of the nearby Tavel appellation.

Winemaking

Le Petit Oratoire Les Lauzes Blanches is harvested by hand, meticulously selecting the grapes from a plot worked entirely by animal traction, reflecting respect for tradition and the environment. The four varietals are co-fermented in whole bunches, allowing for a maceration that can last up to 45 days before pressing. The wine is aged for two years in multi-purpose oak barrels, giving it remarkable complexity and depth without masking the purity of the fruit. Lori Haon stays true to her natural approach, fermenting spontaneously with indigenous yeasts and without the addition of oenological products, making the wine an authentic expression of its terroir.

Taste

Le Petit Oratoire Les Lauzes Blanches presents itself with a fleshy and dense structure, exhibiting a concentration that envelops the palate. The aromas evoke a blend of ripe black fruits and spices, with herbal notes that add freshness and complexity. On the palate, the wine is savoury and balanced, with an acidity that enhances its vivacity and a long finish that invites further discovery of its nuances. This natural wine from the southern Rhône Valley is a versatile companion for a variety of meals, pairing particularly well with spicy dishes that enhance its vibrant character.
