Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
There's now also a solera that produces Fino from Macharnudo, the 2024 bottling of which is the NV Macharnudo Fino. This is the first bottling from a solera they started with some of their wines and some purchased botas; there are five botas in the solera. It's mostly Notario (80%) and La Cruz (20%). It is a textbook Macharnudo Fino with the opulence and volume, the aromas of esparto grass. It's around five years of age, but the concentration makes it look older than it is. 1,500 bottles produced.

Biological ageing under flor for 5 years using the criaderas and soleras system in American oak casks.
Description
Willy Pérez and Ramiro Ibáñez did not want "another correct fino". Their fixation was more uncomfortable: that Jerez should once again sound like a vineyard and not just a winery. When they set foot on Macharnudo and understood what the albariza (toscas cerradas and barajuelas) does with light and water, they took a brave decision: to recover the historic name M. Antonio De La Riva to sign wines that spoke of the estate without make-up. It was not romanticism, it was a statement. Thus was born De La Riva Fino Macharnudo, 100%Palomino Fino, with that luminous austerity of the Jerez region : airy hills, dry heat, and a white earth with a marine memory that imprints chalk, salt and depth.
Winemaking
At La Riva Fino Macharnudo, the grapes are harvested by hand in August and undergo a brief 6-hour sunbathing process to concentrate the grapes without losing their nerve. Then there is a direct pressing with a strict selection: only 50% of the must yolk enters. It is fermented in stainless steel, seeking purity and a fine line, and it is then pumped over at 15% vol. for biological ageing. The wine rests for 5 years under flor in a traditional system of criaderas and solera, where time does not obscure the origin: it refines it and makes it more legible.
Taste
In La Riva Fino Macharnudo, this is "textbook" Macharnudo, but with muscle: opulence and volume from the first hit, as if the albariza became saline cream. On the nose it has the hallmark of the estate: esparto grass, dry and aromatic, over damp chalk and a background of fine bread. On the palate it seems older than it is: ample, serious, and the flower arranges everything with surgical precision - raw almonds, a touch of aniseed, noble bitterness. The finish tightens and stretches: chalk, salt, esparto, elegant and persistent dryness. A deep, gastronomic fino, one of those that make silence at the table and yet dominate it.
