I love the perfumed nose of the 2021 Cerro Las Cuevas, from a spectacular ancient vineyard that is being converted to organic farming and is planted with a field blend of 75% Tempranillo, 15% Graciano and the rest Garnacha, Mazuelo and others. It's not a shy wine at 15% alcohol but has very good freshness and acidity, and the alcohol goes unnoticed. It fermented in open vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in French oak barrels for 12 months. 4,966 bottles were filled in May 2023.

Description
Cerro Las Cuevas is a red wine that comes from Rioja Alavesa. The vineyards where the grapes come from are more than 90 years old on average. Their soils are characterised by a high limestone content with a pebble surface in "Las Laderas" and sandier in "Calitrancos". The grapes obtained from these vineyards are distinguished mainly by their fruity character and marked acidity.
This is a red wine with which the winery tries to highlight the soils of the area, which is why it is part of the house's Selección Terroir range.
This red wine is the perfect accompaniment for red meats and cured cheeses. In general, it goes very well with business lunches.
Winemaking
Bodega Gómez Cruzado makes this wine with Tempranillo, Graciano, Mazuelo and Garnacha grapes from Rioja Alavesa. The grapes are harvested by hand in 15-kilogram boxes and the bunches are selected in the winery.
The winemaking process is traditional and the fermentation process is carried out in stainless steel tanks with gentle punching down for the controlled extraction of noble compounds from the skins. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in French oak barrels and ageing in French oak foudre.

Cerro Las Cuevas is a full-bodied, full-bodied wine, with a well-built acidity, which supports it and at the same time gives it power, complexity and finesse.
It is a structured, pleasant and concentrated wine.
Cerro Las Cuevas comes from two beautiful old vineyards. There, the vines coexist with old oak trees and good weather conditions, which have provided an excellent natural freshness to the grapes that distinguish this exquisite red wine.
It is a fruity wine, which enhances its flavour when aged in barrels, making it a wine with a long life.
