The 2022 El Jardín de las Iguales Garnacha was cropped from a warm and dry year, more Mediterranean and with a sensation of a little more ripeness despite the moderate 13.5% alcohol. The grapes were picked quite early, the 11th of September. The full clusters, including a small percentage of Macabeo interplanted with the Garnacha (perhaps 5% to 10%), fermented with full clusters that were foot trodden in concrete and with a long maceration of 82 days. The wine matured in neutral 456-liter barrels for a period of 13 months. It has notes of flowers, berries and herbs with an exotic touch of curry and celery, elegant and complex. It has a seamless palate with abundant, fine-grained tannins and very supple flavors. It has very good acidity and healthy parameters; a pH of 3.12 and 6.19 grams of acidity. 960 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2024. I tasted the wine twice, the same bottle with a difference of 14 hours, and the wine opened up spectacularly but didn't deviate one millimeter; so, my guess is that the wine is going to age effortlessly in bottle.

Description
El Jardín de las Iguales Garnacha is an oenological jewel of the Bodegas Frontonio winery, made from centenary vines planted between 1918 and 1922 in the area of Barrandijos, Alpartir, at an altitude of 700 metres above sea level. This red wine is mainly composed of Garnacha ( 96%) and a small proportion of Macabeo (4%). The slate and limestone soil and the organic viticulture process are key to its production.
Winemaking
Harvesting is done by hand, and vinification includes fermentation with whole clusters and indigenous yeasts, followed by 14 months of ageing in 456-litre neutral oak barrels. Only around 850 bottles are produced per year.
Taste
Jardín de las Iguales Garnacha has a vibrant scarlet red colour. On the nose, it displays a delicate floral perfume with notes of blood orange, curry and dried bay leaf, providing an ethereal and captivating bouquet. On the palate, it is notable for its weightless tannin and grandiose texture, while maintaining a vibrant acidity that lends it freshness. It is, therefore, a wine renowned for its balance and elegance, with a long finish and refined structure, ideal for pairing with aromatic and complex dishes.
