The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Gravelly Meadow includes 16% Merlot and 8% Malbec. It's a red-fruited effort, with bright cherries complemented by some herbal notes. In the mouth, the wine is medium to full-bodied, silky textured and elegant, with hints of toasty oak and red berries lingering on the finish. Not particularly tannic, it should be approachable within a few years and drink well for at least 10 to 15 years after that. At just 267 cases produced, it's the smallest production of the three single-vineyard wines this year.

Description
Diamond Creek Gravelly Meadow is a wine that comes from the vineyards of Diamond Creek, located in the Diamond Mountain district of northern Napa Valley. The winery's philosophy is that different soils bring different flavours to the wine.
The Gravelly Meadow parcel was planted in 1968 on brown stony soil and covers approximately 2 hectares of the estate. These stony, porous soils drain quickly, providing the Cabernet Sauvignon vines with the perfect level of stress. Although the elevation is high, at 167 metres, it is much flatter here than elsewhere on the property. The vines are harvested by hand, as Diamond Creek are farmers first and foremost.
Winemaking
After the harvest, the grapes are destemmed for a short cold maceration for 4 to 5 days. The must is then fermented in stainless steel tanks with 9 days of maceration. Finally, the wine is aged for 21 months in new French oak barrels.
The final blend before bottling is composed of 78.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8.2% Merlot, 8% Malbec and 5.1% Petit Verdot.
Taste
Diamond Creek Gravelly Meadow has a distinctive mineral quality. The tannins are well defined and elegant. Expect earthy characteristics, with black fruit flavours of blackcurrant, plum and blackberry and notes of graphite, sage and black tea. For those who prefer a restrained and elegant expression of Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine is a fantastic choice for any connoisseur.
