The 2020 Contador feels a little more civilized than the 2021 I tasted next to it. The profile is similar—ripe dark fruit, spices, creamy oak (neatly integrated) and a touch of earth, smoke and toast. The palate is full-bodied and the tannins abundant and fine, and the wine comes through as ripe (15% alcohol) but in balance. It's approachable now but should get polished and more elegant with a few more years in bottle.

Contador, by Benjamín Romeo, is an exclusive wine made in La Rioja, in San Vicente de la Sonsierra. It is one of the best made wines in Spain, which has earned it a rating of 100 Parker points, without a doubt, a legend of viticulture!
The vineyard is located near the castle of San Vicente in the Ebro valley, an area known for its clayey, calcareous soils and climatic conditions that favour the cultivation of vines. This is an ideal environment for the grapes to ripen optimally.
Winemaking
This wine is made from Tempranillo grapes, aged in French oak barrels for almost two years. Moreover, it does not undergo any filtering or clarification processes, which guarantees its distinctive nuances.
Taste
Contador is characterised by its slightly sweet, woody and rough flavours. Its high tannin content is perfect for those who wish to experience a full-bodied and robust wine. It is characterised by its long finish notes, which linger in the aftertaste with great intensity, but without being invasive.
