Description
Sergi Colet does not make conventional sparkling wines: he cultivates precision, depth and silence. From his family estate in Pacs del Penedès, where he works 24 hectares under the Clàssic Penedès label, he produces wines that are a direct expression of the soil, the Mediterranean climate and the weather. Everything comes from their own vineyards, with more than 80% of the vines being over 30 years old, planted on calcareous soils -slightly sandy in some places- at an altitude of 350 metres above sea level and facing north-east. The climate, tempered by cool inland breezes, allows for slow, balanced ripening, which is key to preserving natural acidity and tension.
Colet Gran Cuvée Brut Nature is a sober and refined blend of Chardonnay, Macabeu and Xarel.lo. Sergi dispenses with the expedition liqueur: a deliberate decision to show the wine in its most honest and precise form.
Winemaking
Each variety that makes up Colet Gran Cuvée Brut Nature is vinified separately in stainless steel tanks, with temperature-controlled fermentations to preserve freshness and typicity. After blending, the wine undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle using the traditional method, and rests for 39 months on its lees. Disgorgement is carried out in small batches, with no added sugars, which reinforces its dry and mineral character.
Taste
Fine, persistent bubbles. On the nose, Colet Gran Cuvée Brut Nature displays notes of raw almond, ripe apple, lemon peel, toasted bread and a subtle saline background. The palate is vertical, tense, with a vibrant acidity that sets the pace. White and citrus fruit intertwine with hints of fresh nuts and chalk. Long, dry finish with mineral echoes. A gastronomic sparkling wine of surgical precision, designed to accompany raw food, seafood, steamed vegetables or dishes with a clean, elegant profile.
