Description
From the heart of Pedrosa de Duero, Carmelo Rodero Raza is born as a declaration of identity. This wine is the fruit of a clear vision: to capture the essence of its land, its vineyards and a deeply rooted winemaking tradition. With vineyards between 30 and 35 years old, planted in goblet and trellised vines, planted on clay soils at an altitude of over 800 metres, this 100% Tempranillo reflects the purest expression of the Ribera del Duero. The Rodero family, always faithful to their heritage but courageous in their innovation, decided to make this wine as a tribute to their "race", their origin, selecting the best plots in five key villages, where each vine contributes a piece to the sensory puzzle of the wine.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand, with a rigorous selection in the field. The grapes for Carmelo Rodero Raza are transported intact thanks to a gravity vinification system, avoiding oxidation and respecting the fruit as much as possible. After a controlled maceration, Carmelo Rodero Raza is aged for 21 months in new 225 L French oak barrels, where it develops its structure, aromatic complexity and balance. Each step is guided by a minimal intervention approach, so that the wine expresses the character of the terroir without artifice.
Taste
On the nose, Carmelo Rodero Raza displays a sober but profound intensity: blackberries and black plums, wrapped in notes of fine oak, cocoa, graphite and subtle balsamic hints. There is an aromatic tension that invites further exploration. On the palate, it is enveloping, muscular and refined. The tannins are firm but polished, and the natural acidity balances the ripe fruit with a lively energy. The finish is long, with hints of sweet spice, damp earth and a mineral echo. This is a serious, soulful red that demands attention and rewards with every sip. Ideal with red meats, game or a board of cured cheeses.
