The 2020 Chinon La Croix Boissée is derived from vines planted on south-facing limestone soils. Evoking aromas of spices, dark berries and flowers intertwined with meaty notes, it’s tense and chiseled with powdery tannins complemented by velvety tannins and carnal notes, resulting in a robust and dense finish.

Description
Bernard Baudry La Croix Boissée is a red wine made from 100% Cabernet Franc. The vines are planted on a highly calcareous soil with a top layer of sandy clay over limestone, known as"white tuffeau". These vines are between 15 and 40 years old and are south-facing, which allows optimal exposure to the sun.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand, ensuring the careful selection of the best grapes. Fermentation lasts 20 days in oak barrels, followed by ageing for 24 months in 1 to 3 year old oak casks and an additional 9 months in cement tank. Bottling takes place in September, three years after the harvest, without prior filtration. This meticulous winemaking process guarantees a wine of high quality and distinctive character.
Taste
Bernard Baudry La Croix Boissée is characterised by its firm body with marked, "chalky" tannins. It is a complex and dense wine, with aromas of very ripe fruit complemented by spicy, floral and meaty notes. These flavours are integrated with velvety tannins, resulting in a robust and persistent finish. The wine shows remarkable tension and precision, with dusty tannins adding structure and depth. It is recommended to be aged in bottle for 2 to 20 years to reach its maximum expression, allowing the flavours and aromas to evolve and intensify over time. La Croix Boissée is an excellent choice for those looking for a wine with character and longevity, ideal for pairing with red meats, game and robust dishes.
