The 2019 Sancerre Génération Dix-Neuf (XIX) Rouge is dark and intense as well as elegant and pure on the dense, concentrated but fresh, spicy and aromatic nose that combines reductive and oxidative features. On the palate, this is a full-bodied, generous, intense, pretty fleshy and seriously structured Pinot Noir with firm but juicy tannins and generous fruit and intensity. This is a remarkably good red wine from Sancerre. 14.5% stated alcohol. Diam cork. Tasted in December 2022.

Description
Alphonse Mellot Génération XIX Rouge is an exceptional wine that reflects the rich winemaking tradition of the Sancerre region. This wine is made from a careful selection of Pinot Noir grapes grown on a specific 1 hectare plot with 62 year old vines, located in Chambratte and Paradis. The orientation of the vineyards is south-east, on marl soils and an upper Kimmeridgian subsoil, which brings unique characteristics to the wine.
The viticulture is carried out under organic and biodynamic farming practices, ensuring a deep respect for the environment and the quality of the grapes. Pruning is done in simple Guyot, and the planting density is 10,000 feet per hectare. Harvesting is done manually in small boxes of 25 kg, and all the bunches are carefully selected.
Winemaking
Vinification begins with a cold maceration of 8 to 12 days, followed by fermentations not exceeding 28°C, to preserve the Pinot Noir aromas, for about 4 weeks, with very light pumping over and pigeage. After devatting and gentle pressing, the wines undergo malolactic fermentation in new barrels, where they are also aged for 14 months. The annual production of this wine is approximately 2,800 bottles.

The Alphonse Mellot Génération XIX Rouge stands out for its complexity and aromatic richness. It has a deep, intense ruby appearance, with an aroma that combines notes of fruits such as blackberry, blueberries and cherries, enriched with oriental spices such as pink pepper, vanilla and cinnamon. On the palate, the wine is a symphony of flavours, with a powerful and generous entry that envelops the palate. The fruits and spices are complemented by an elegant touch of wood and ripe tannins, resulting in a wine of great harmony and fullness.
