Buy Wine from Château Malescot St. Exupery
Château Malescot St. Exupery is a property placed at Margaux municipality that has passed through many hands until, in 1955, Zuger family takes over the winery to turn Malescot St. Exupery into a winery producing pleasant wines at exquisite prices. Let's have a look at the history of this château and its raising from its ashes like the Phoenix!
In 1616 Louis Escoussès, King Louis XIV notary, purchased the estate, later sold to Simon Malescot in 1697, who would give it his name as Château Malescot. This domaine will remain in Simon's hands until the French Revolution but on following years it had different owners until finally Count Saint-Exupery acquired it and changed the name to its final Château Malescot St. Exupery. With the demise of the Count, the Countess was totally bankrupt and was forced to sell the property in 1853 to Mr. Fourcade. Not many years later, the passing of Mr. Fourcade leads to a new phase of transfers until finally the Zuger family is placed as ultimate owner from 1955 until today. Under the Zuger management these wines, that had been a ruin for Malescot St. Exupery, take a new stage up to elegant fruit with velvety, refined textures.
On clay-limestone soils settled on a gravel base and with Atlantic climate, the varieties grown are Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Merlot (35%), Cabernet Franc (10%) and Petit Verdot (5%). Vines are 35 years old in average and the density is 10.000 vines per hectare, single-guyot trained. Thus, Château Malescot St. Exupery is born at AOC Margaux where wines are distinguishable by its elegantly scented fruit and its smooth, silky yet dense texture. No doubt the wine is unique in its kind for its appealing personality, second to no Palmer nor Château Margaux. Part of the wine is fermented in concrete vats and the other part in stainless steel at controlled temperature. Afterwards wine is aged for about 16 months in French oak barrels, 80% new ones.
Château Malescot St. Exupery: unbeatable quality pleasure relationship in Margaux!
