Description
Thymiopoulos Vrana Petra is a high quality red wine made by Apostolos Thymiopoulos in the region of Macedonia, Greece. This estate wine comes from a single 24-year-old vineyard located south of the village of Trilofos, at an altitude of 200 metres. The variety used is 100% Xinomavro, an indigenous grape known for its ability to produce complex, long-aged wines. The calcareous soil with an abundance of quartz and schist, together with a microclimate influenced by the Mediterranean air currents and the Vermio mountains, provides optimal conditions for vine cultivation.
Winemaking
Harvesting is done by hand and the grapes are fermented with indigenous yeasts, 50% destemmed and 50% whole cluster. Maceration lasts 30 days, followed by 12 months of ageing in second-use 500-litre French oak barrels. This process results in an elegant, fresh wine with a dense structure.
Taste
Thymiopoulos Vrana Petra has a deep ruby colour and a seductive nose that gradually opens up, revealing aromas of strawberry, cherry, raspberry, red currant, vanilla, rose, lavender, thyme, rosemary, pepper and nutmeg. On the palate, elegance combines with concentration, achieving a perfect balance. The tannins are of medium intensity (+), the body is full and the acidity refreshing. The wine stands out for its fruity character, with juicy and fresh fruit, accompanied by an intense botanical and earthy touch. This wine has an ageing capacity of up to 10 years, allowing it to develop even more complexity and depth over time.
