Description
In the heart of the Castilian plateau, at 950 metres above sea level, lies the Matasnos Forest, a unique enclave where nature and viticulture converge in perfect harmony. The Matasnos Syrah is born from this place, a wine that reflects the passion and commitment of its homonymous winery to produce high quality wines. This single varietal wine is made from 100% Syrah grapes, grown in a single plot of three hectares. The vineyard, partly planted in 1960 and expanded in 2007, sits on clay loam and sandy soils with a chalky base, characteristics that give the wine a distinctive minerality.
Winemaking
The Matasnos Syrah is harvested by hand in 12 kg boxes, ensuring the integrity of the grapes. Once in the winery, the bunches are subjected to a double selection process: first in bunches and then berry by berry by means of optical vision, guaranteeing that only the best grapes are used in the process. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks at a low temperature, using yeasts selected from the Matasnos Forest. Malolactic fermentation takes place in new 225-litre American oak barrels, followed by 12 months of ageing in 500-litre barrels, combining new and second-use barrels. This meticulous process allows the wine to fully express its fruity character and origin.
Taste
When pouring a glass of Matasnos Syrah, one can appreciate an intense red colour, almost purple, with purplish tinges that denote its youth and vitality. On the nose, it displays a high aromatic intensity, with notes of black fruit such as plums and cassis, accompanied by mineral and floral nuances, with lavender and violet candies standing out. On the palate, it is fresh and intense, with a marked personality and a pleasant passage. Black fruit predominates, complemented by spicy hints of nutmeg and black cocoa. The finish is broad and subtle, with a persistence that invites you to enjoy every sip, leaving memories of pipe tobacco, Chinese ink and pink pepper on the palate. This wine is a faithful reflection of the Matasnos Forest terroir, offering a sensory experience that connects deeply with wine lovers.
