The 2022 Cruz Santa was produced with Vijariego Negro, the same pale and delicate variety called Sumoll in Cataluña that tends to produce pale, light and aromatic wines. The vines are 20 years old in the Santa Cruz lieu-dit within the Suertes property, a double cordon Royat plot at 440 to 500 meters above sea level on clay soils. This fermented with 100% full clusters and indigenous yeasts in plastic bin and matured in used 500-liter oak barrels for 10 months. It has 11.8% alcohol and a pH of 3.42 with 6.2 grams of acidity. There's an herbal twist that feels even minty here. This is a little riper than the 2021 that I tasted next to it, and it has some slightly dusty tannins that will need some time in bottle. 1,300 bottles were filled in September 2023.
