Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Ruinart’s NV Brut Rose – just over half of which is Pinot, and close to 20% of which constituted red wine – offers almost kir-like scents (I beg that this not be taken as derogatory!) of fresh apple infused with framboise liqueur. A tang of fresh (and, naturally, prominently seedy) pomegranate and a bittersweet twist of orange rind lend vivacity and invigoration while helping balance the wine’s roughly nine grams of residual sugar, leading to a finish of delightful and unabashed fruitiness allied to subtle sweetness. Amusingly, here is both a relatively rare instance of the premium that is asked by a famous Grand Marque for rose being modest, as well as of its being qualitatively justified. Enjoy this one over the coming year.

Features

Description

Ruinart Brut Rosé was born from the pioneering vision of a house that transformed Champagne into art, reinterpreting rosé with finesse, light and absolute precision. Founded in 1729, the Ruinart house has built its prestige on elegance and precision, giving life to a rosé Champagne that combines tradition, technique and an unmistakable identity. This blend brings together between 40 and 50 crus, incorporating 20-30% of reserve wines from different vintages, which adds complexity and stylistic constancy.

The blend is based on Chardonnay, which delivers freshness and verticality, and Pinot Noir, partially vinified in red, which contributes colour, structure and fruit expression. In the heart of the Champagne region, on chalky soils that reflect the light and preserve the acidity, this French Champagne is born with a vibrant and elegant profile.

Winemaking

Ruinart Brut Rosé is hand harvested by hand, with a meticulous selection of clusters. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve aromatic purity. Subsequently, malolactic fermentation takes place, softening the acidity without losing tension. After blending, Ruinart Brut Rosé is aged for 2 to 3 years on its lees in the historic underground chalk cellars. The 8 g/L dosage defines its Brut style, balancing freshness and roundness.

Taste

In the glass, Ruinart Brut Rosé shows a delicate coral pink hue with fine, persistent bubbles. The nose displays aromas of raspberry, wild strawberry and pomegranate, accompanied by citrus nuances of pink grapefruit. Subtle notes of brioche and fresh almond add complexity. The palate is silky on the attack, with a vibrant acidity that structures the whole. The red fruit is precise and fresh, never cloying. The finish is long, clean and slightly saline, establishing itself as an elegant Champagne, ideal for haute cuisine and special celebrations.
