Description
Ridge Pagani Ranch Zinfandel is born out of a deep respect for the land and history. Nestled in the heart of Sonoma Valley, this century-old vineyard is home to vines planted in the late 19th century, many of which are still in production. Since 1991, Ridge has been working this terroir with a clear philosophy: minimal intervention, sustainable farming and pure expression of the vineyard. The wine is composed of 79% Zinfandel, 10% Alicante Bouschet, 9% Petit Syrah and 2% Mataró, reflecting the vineyard's historic field blends.
Winemaking
The grapes that make Ridge Pagani Ranch Zinfandel, harvested by hand, are destemmed and fermented with indigenous yeasts in open vats. After alcoholic fermentation, spontaneous malolactic fermentation takes place, refining the acidity and rounding out the texture. The wine is aged for 14 months in American oak barrels -only a small percentage of which are new- to respect the character of the vineyard. Minimal doses of sulphur are used, with no fining or aggressive filtering, in line with the Ridge ethos: let the wine speak for itself.
Taste
Deep ruby in colour with violet highlights, the Ridge Pagani Ranch Zinfandel offers a complex and expressive nose: blackberries, ripe cherries, plum compote and sweet spices, with hints of liquorice, cocoa and dried orange peel. On the palate, it is juicy and vibrant, with a lively acidity that balances its fruit richness. Polished tannins and an enveloping texture support a core of ripe black fruit, while notes of damp earth, tobacco and dried herbs emerge in layers. The finish is long, savoury and fresh, leaving an imprint of wild fruit and mild spice. A Zinfandel with character, balance and ageing potential, ideal with intense dishes or grilled meats.
